Sansevieria is one of the most popular houseplants, perfect for decorating any indoor space without requiring special care. This plant is so hardy that it can even survive in dark places with very little water.
Few people know that the sansevieria, if properly cared for, can also thrive. In this article, we explain how to encourage a sansevieria to bloom and release its classic and delightful fragrance.
There are about 70 types of sansevieria, but the best known are sansevieria cylindrica, sansevieria laurentii, sansevieria zeylanica and sansevieria kirkii.
Getting a sansevieria to flower may seem difficult, but it's not impossible. You just need to try to recreate the conditions of its natural habitat.
Location and light. Although it adapts easily to dimly lit spaces, the ideal location for the sansevieria is near a well-lit window. This will allow its leaves to become stronger and greener.
Watering. Sansevieria should only be watered when the soil is completely dry. In winter, it only needs water once or twice a month.
Fertilizer. Apply it in late spring and early summer, once a month, until autumn. Use a fertilizer for flowering plants. Sansevieria flowers appear in late summer and have a fragrance reminiscent of vanilla and banana.
